Strategic Visioning
Your vision is the key. Your organization must know where it’s headed. A clear vision enables everyone to focus on doing those things that support the Future State, while avoiding actions that conflict with or diverge from the vision. Doing ANYTHING without a clear, high-level vision and strategy is a recipe for disaster – or at the very least, failure.
To create a successful Strategic Vision, executives must:
Define the current state of the organization
Take a step back and examine exactly what you are doing; the things you seek to accomplish, and the action that the enterprise leadership wants you to take. Are they aligned? Are there disconnects?
Articulate the Future State at the point where expectations and deliverables align
What services do you keep in house? Where is your best use of a strategic partner? What type of people work in this Future State? What are they doing? With what tools and technologies?
Establish a roadmap to goes from here (Current) to there (Future)
It isn’t a simple task getting from one state to the other. It takes time, effort, reorganization, redesign, partner selection, technology selection and implementation. And while there may be some pain, it’s possible to keep it to a minimum.
Move ahead
Everyone in the organization needs to buy into the strategic vision and be motivated to put in the effort to move to the future state. Those summits aren’t going to scale themselves.
