Organizational Design
Once business processes are defined and aligned with technology, an organization has to be structured to support the processes and ensure success (as defined by focused KPIs and Metrics). This includes designing and documenting Future State responsibility and authority for the individual; defining the organizational structure, spelling out jobs, roles, and staff; and assessing and selecting outsourced providers. Deploying the right tools and technology to the right people within the right framework will have a significant impact.
 

When you know where you want to go, it follows that you need to configure your organization to help you get there. You have to get the right people in the right roles, doing the right things. Measuring the relevant results takes time, thought, and tact.

Initiatives

To build a Best Practices organization, leadership must:

Define the structure of the future state organization

What are the logical connections between groups, roles, responsibilities, and deliverables? A well defined organizational structure builds alignment and commitment as opposed to conflict and detachment.

Define the roles that will be needed to staff the organization

Create the role descriptions for the positions in the organization that accomplish the goals of the future state organization. What education would be required? What experience or skills will be beneficial? Will the position be in-house or should a partner provide the services?

Define the measures and metrics that will be used to define success for the organization

Every organization has some unique measures of success. All organizations also share common measures. What measures are critical to your company? Leadership? Organization? Internal partners?
