With all the hype of Social Media, and the constant refrain of “we have to start using this Social Media stuff”, it might help to start to build an understanding of what can be done within the context of a corporate real estate organization.  The three key words are Connect, Communicate, Collaborate.

I was fortunate to be asked to participate on a panel at the recent Corenet Global Summit in Atlanta to talk about the Millennial Generation, Social Media and their impact on work and the workplace.  The experts on the panel discussed how the members of the new generation now entering the workforce are significantly different from the Boomers in how they gather information, make decisions, collaborate, are motivated, etc.  It was a highly interactive panel/audience format.  To

The advancement of social media and networking has changed the way that real estate professionals communicate and interact. I think we all know this intuitively, but many folks – including key leadership – are not really clear on the how, why, or who of this change.  As you might guess, this is partly a generational & perspective issue.

There is a gap in the marketplace. Where social media apps/functions like Facebook, Twitter, blogging, Wikis, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. have proven themselves as valuable tools to keep people socially connected, there are a noticeable lack of tools that do the same thing for business. This will change. It must. As workers are physically distributed more and more through enabling technology and enlightened HR policies, the need to remain connected becomes more important than ever. The connection provided by current “social” apps is required for business.
